the songwriting process for you guys like? Do you usually come up with
the music or the lyrics first. Nick:: i like it best when karen and i both start from scratch, and arrive at bliss. S:: Is Cold Light at all influenced by The Undertones "Keep It In The Family"? N::no....never heard it. S:: Do you guys prefer cheese or baked beans on toast, or both (i.e. Chessy-Baked Beans-On Toast!!!!)? N ::i'm not too into toast that has been contaminated with too many condiments or accessories. i've just learned how to say bread with butter in german. S::Who have been your favourite bands to play with? N :: ditto (refering to the KarenO Q&A).you really cant top that....although i would add the gossip and sleater-kinney.i'm really looking forward to playing with black dice and pj harvey next week. S:: Were you, yes you Nick! Were you in any other bands before the yyy, if so what style of music were they? N::many. there was a point when i decided to whore myself out...musically, and was playing in 5 bands. i had played in a band called challenge of the future aka bobafett experience for several years with friends from school before moving to nyc...that was somewhere between sonic youth and can. around the time yyy started, i was guesting occasionally with my friends in flux information sciences, which was sort of devo/shellac-ish, and i was in a short-lived, but great noise-goth band called Adoration, with my friend joshua who now plays in the prosaics. S:: If you were to advertise your band, what would be three POWER words that makes your band better than everyone else's? N :: Attack,Passion,Absolute. S:: If the band were an ice cream flavor, which flavour would you guys be? N::sex on the beach S:: does it ever scare or worry you when you realise how many people are influenced by your style and fashion? N::i try not to be too aware of such things. S:: Does it feel more of a struggle having a female vocalist as opposed to a male vocalist. As rock is still seen in some peoples eyes as a male led genre. N:: its frustrating that it always has to be "female vocalist" instead of "vocalist". its especially hard for karen on tour, as almost all venues are staffed and run by men, with the sole exception of the bartenders. S:: How is touring? Any further news on more tours? N::its going well. we've learned our limits the hard way, at least for us, and are able to savor the finer qualities of travel ocaasionally rather than never. we'll be touring pretty much through december, going to japan, australia, and playing with white stripes and bjork, and liars. S:: Nick, what do you use in your hair? N::nothing. sometimes when it gets humid, i need reinforcement. S:: The last question…. Have you guys completed GTA: Vice City yet? N::no, i discovered the james bond games, and then discovered there was a brighter world outside my apartment. brians videogame skills, simply cannot be denied. |
